Dear Community Centre User,

 

County Council cuts threaten future of Westfield Community Centre.

 

The proposed £11m cuts to services across Leicestershire includes the removal of all of the County Council’s grant to the community centre amounting to £140.000 per year. Over the last 10 years the county council has reduced it’s support to the centre by 75%,the latest cut in support will inevitably lead to severe cuts and possible closure of the centre within two years.

 

The Centre has provided a broad range of cradle to grave services to the community for over 40 years. It provides crèches, Day nursery, play groups, pre-schools, kids club, playschemes, youth clubs , sports and leisure groups, adult education classes support groups for the elderly and disabled and is key partner in the delivery of the County’s Surestart  programmes  to the Hinckley and Bosworth area. A recent Ofsted report described it’s pre-school as outstanding, The centre   serves over 3000 users per week employs  32 full or part-time staff and has over 100 volunteers working  at the centre each week.

 

Like many community groups this centre quadruples the County’s investment, delivering nearly £600,000 of programmes from the centre, each and every year. When we include the volunteer effort and child care services which allow people to work or take up training opportunities, thus contributing to the local economy, and the community based health and welfare groups that, support people in the community rather than, them relying upon hospital or residential care the social capital generated  could easily  be in  excess of £2m per annum.

 

If you wish to support the centre and oppose these cuts then please  ACT NOW and certainly before 24th  February  and contact your local County Councillor and The Local MP  to let him/her know how you feel.
